Staff Spotlight – Chris Goodwin

Many in the cannabis community already know him, and now, as General Manager at TOKE, more people will get to know Chris Goodwin as he takes on this leadership role within our cannabis retail store.

A Man About Cannabis

A familiar face to many due to his many media and film appearances, and a familiar voice to the radio and podcast airwaves, Chris has spent his career advocating for the freedom of the cannabis plant.

Chris is known for his cannabis antics, which have included giving away joints on CHCH News and CP24, giving away over a pound of pot on the steps of City Hall, gifting Bubble Hash at Yonge

and Dundas, and distributing thousands of Joints at the US Consulate. When you come into TOKE, you’ll have to ask him about his “Magic Bus” trips.

“Cannabis is my life’s work, and my passion,” says Goodwin, who has been consuming cannabis for 25 years, “I’m grateful that it’s my career.”

Honouring the Past, Looking Towards the Future

As a cannabis retail store with free market origins, Goodwin was integral in establishing cannabis’ early market in Ontario. He was the former co-owner of Cannabis Culture, the renowned brain child of Marc Emery as well as Good Weeds, which he opened with his wife Erin. His role in these environments was about much more than slinging cannabis. The community that made up his former dispensaries enjoyed nightly comedy shows, and could always count on Goodwin to chime in on behalf of the freedom of the plant on podcasts and political news.

In April 2007, Goodwin put on Toronto’s first 4/20 rally, bringing up to a thousand people to Yonge Dundas Square. Now 4/20 Toronto gets over 20,000 people annually. “It grew to become one of the largest protests in Toronto,” says Goodwin of this achievement for cannabis culture. “I believe that an open free market is the best system for consumers and producers, to provide the best quality, price and service,” says Goodwin of his personal cannabis philosophy, yet he is eager to take his expertise into the regulated cannabis market in this role with TOKE.

Chris Knows His Cannabis

If there’s anyone our consumers can rely on to give them an honest review and opinion on cannabis products and strains, it’s Chris. “I have over 20 years of personal and business experience with cannabis consumers,” he says, From Bud Swap to publishing reviews in Cannabis Culture, and Skunk Magazine, I’ve tried thousands of different strains of world class cannabis, and through this I can help people find exactly what they’re looking for.” Chris himself is a fan of the strain White Widow, and prefers to roll joints to consume.

What is Chris looking most forward to in his role at TOKE? “Choosing the best product,” he says, “From the best producers, craft growers, activists, small batch, Indigenous-owned, and local.” We look forward to seeing Chris’ take on the OCS catalogue, and we look forward to what he decides to carry in store for our consumers.

Come into TOKE to meet Chris and our team of budtenders who have all been carefully selected to provide the best legal retail cannabis experience in Ontario. We can’t wait to see you!
